SMA announces plans for U.S. inverter manufacturing

SMA’s factory in Germany.

SMA Solar Technology announced it will expand manufacturing into the U.S. with a projected start of production in 2025. The company is working with multiple states and potential partners to evaluate the most strategic manufacturing location and approach. Site selection is anticipated in the first half of 2024. SMA plans 3.5 GW of capacity per year in the new site, with opportunities to expand with time. It is expected to create up to 200 new jobs in the first three years.

“The U.S. is a key market, and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) provides an extraordinary opportunity for long-term growth,” said SMA CEO Jürgen Reinert. “With this step, we will significantly strengthen our market share in the U.S. and set the course for SMA’s future growth. The global demand for climate-friendly solar solutions and the urgent need for more energy efficiency continues to increase. This is reflected in our order books, and with our broad portfolio of solutions we are ideally positioned to benefit from this decision.”

The manufacturing expansion into the U.S. coincides with the construction of the SMA GIGAWATT FACTORY, which has allowed SMA to double its production capacity in Germany to 40 GW per year. Starting in 2025, solutions for large-scale PV and storage power plants will be manufactured in Niestetal for global deployment.

GOODBYE OLD WAYS

It’s okay to break tradition. Today’s electricity needs are more sophisticated than ever, making traditional power a thing of the past. Switching to solar helps you get with the times while saving the planet.

GREEN CONSCIOUSs

Traditional power has adverse environmental effects from the coal and natural gases combusted during production. Solar offers all of the power with no extra cost and no harmful polutions..

POWERED BY THE SUN

Rather than digging up fossil fuels, solar energy is clean power from the sun - a renewable fuel source that won't go out in our lifetime. Every kW lowers your carbon footprint by over 3K pounds annually.
