SEG Solar acquires Houston manufacturing facility for solar module assembly plans

SEG Solar says it has acquired a building in Houston, Texas, for its planned 2-GW solar module assembly factory. The site consists of 145,000 sq. ft of manufacturing and warehouse space and 16,000 sq. ft of office space. The company will move its global headquarters and administrative support from California to the site before the end of 2023.

The factory should support three production lines capable of producing both TOPCon panels and traditional high-efficiency panels using either 182-mm or 210-mm solar cells. Production is expected to begin in Q1 2024.

Multiple Solar Power World requests for interviews with company executives have gone unfulfilled.

“SEG is excited to establish a manufacturing base in Texas and is looking forward to serving the U.S. market with more domestic production,” said SEG’s VP and CLO Michael Eden in a press release. “This facility will help to sustain low carbon, eco centric energy independence in the U.S. for future generations.”

SEG will invest $60 million into the Houston factory, which should cover equipment purchasing and facility improvements. The company said the plant is expected to create 500 new jobs.

SEG Solar says on its website that it was founded in 2016 in Northern California and has been producing modules at a 750-MW facility in Vietnam. The company officially spun its business operations from Jiangsu Seraphim Solar System Ltd. and its affiliates at the end of 2022, with that transition apart beginning in March 2021.
