UGE, a U.S. solar developer, has awarded Polar Racking, a North American supplier and manufacturer of solar mounting solutions, with three fixed-tilt, ground-mounted community solar projects totaling 6.6 MWDC.
Polar Racking is supplying engineering design services, its all-weather CORE fixed-tilt ground-mount and foundations to the Norway (1.1 MW), Qualey (2.7 MW) and Broadway (2.8 MW) solar projects in Maine. The Norway solar project is nearing construction completion, and the remaining two projects are slated to start construction in summer 2023.
“Polar Racking is proud to be selected for the Maine projects with a long-standing client, UGE,” said Vishal Lala, managing director of Polar Racking. “We are happy to continue to meet the high standards of leading solar developers with our robust products and high levels of customer service. Polar Racking continues to innovate our products to improve the speed and ease of assembly in winter conditions. We believe the CORE will continue to stand apart from other fixed tilt ground mounted solar racking products.”
The portfolio’s varied site conditions required a range of foundation types, including ground screw foundations and at the landfill site, Polar Racking’s pour-on-site ballast tubs. The foundation testing and design was completed by PRI Engineering, a geotechnical engineering consulting company specializing in solar foundation design.
Polar Racking’s solar racking solutions were for their performance ratings in high winds and heavy snow common to the Northeast. The portfolio is sited on locations in Maine with unusually high snow loads, between 80-90 psf. CORE solar racking has been installed as far north as the Canadian Arctic and in hurricane-prone areas such as the East Coast and in the Caribbean.
“The quality of materials we use for our community solar projects is paramount,” said Kristin Lundquist, UGE’s Director of Projects. “We trust Polar Racking to deliver the durable, dependable products we require to build projects that will last for decades.”
