With additional rebates available to U.S. consumers for home efficiency updates, energy load control will be paramount to furthering the country’s energy transition. Smart circuit company Lumin has now integrated its software with Enphase and SolarEdge energy storage products, allowing participating homeowners to easily personalize and manage circuits and prolong battery runtime.
“Our goal is to give homeowners as much choice and control of their energy usage as possible,” says Alex Bazhinov, founder and president of Lumin. “Our growing integration network ensures that more energy storage systems can adapt to whatever challenges homeowners face, be it changing weather conditions, grid outages, fluctuating energy costs, or daily lifestyle needs.”
Lumin’s solution manages loads dynamically. A homeowner can connect their Enphase or SolarEdge battery to Lumin Smart Panel inside Lumin’s app and set their circuit priority depending on the state-of-charge of the battery. Once an outage is detected, the system automatically shuts down heavy loads or lower-priority loads defined by the homeowner to preserve battery life. The homeowner may set different battery state-of-charge thresholds for different circuits and then interactively choose to bring some of these loads back online using Lumin’s mobile app or allow circuits to automatically turn back on based on priority and battery threshold as the battery recharges.
Beyond power outage support, Lumin also automatically responds to set power limits while off-grid, allowing access to heavy loads without surpassing the power limit and tripping the inverter to ease the homeowner’s experience in maintaining the stability of their home energy usage and consumption.
By integrating with Enphase and SolarEdge, Lumin joins the ranks of two global energy companies leading the solar industry by helping residential customers use solar power to support various appliances through distributed energy resources. These two companies combined are responsible for approximately 50% of the storage marketplace in 2022, adding to the variety of other energy storage brands that already have integrations with Lumin platform.
“Now more responsive than ever, our load control enables homeowners to control and maximize the value of their home battery systems and achieve a more resilient, reliable and protected energy storage system,” added Kelly Warner, CEO of Lumin.
This software integration joins Lumin’s other energy-saving products, including its original Smart Panel, which retrofits existing circuit breaker panels to provide energy data and circuit control. In addition, the company’s recently launched Lumin Edge, a modular smart energy system, includes a smartphone application that allows homeowners to manage, monitor, and optimize their home energy usage.
