GAF Energy completes construction on solar shingle manufacturing facility in Texas

GAF Energy, a Standard Industries company, announced it has completed construction on its second manufacturing facility making its Timberline Solar Energy Shingle (ES). The 450,000-ft2 building in Georgetown, Texas, just outside Austin, will have an annual production capacity of 250 MW of the solar shingles. Full operation is planned by the end of this year.

The 250-MW Texas facility joins GAF Energy’s existing 50-MW factory in San Jose, California. The company’s 300-MW manufacturing capacity now makes it the largest producer of solar roofing in the world.

“We’re thrilled to be building the future of solar here in Georgetown,” said Martin DeBono, President of GAF Energy. “The community has welcomed us with open arms, confirming everything we thought when we made the decision to expand to Texas. We’ve begun hiring and already have dozens of people ready to make the best solar roofing on the market right here in Georgetown. We firmly believe that manufacturing in America speeds the innovation cycle, and allows us to deliver the best product for our customers.”

GAF Energy began hiring earlier this year and has brought on more than 75 people in manufacturing, supply chain, logistics and other associated roles. At full capacity, the company will employ more than 240 people based in Georgetown.
