Distributor AEE Solar to close after 45 years in business

Equipment distributor AEE Solar announced it will close on May 3, 2024. The distributor is now selling off the rest of its inventory at clearance pricing.

AEE Solar was founded in 1979 as Alternative Energy Engineering in rural Redway, California. Solar enthusiast David Katz launched the business from his home and offered products via catalogs. The company specialized in off-grid equipment but became a significant distributor to the residential market in California.

Sunrun acquired AEE Solar in 2014 along with SnapNrack. In AEE Solar’s message to buyers about the upcoming closure, it recommends purchasers contact their territory sales manager to “explore opportunities to purchase directly from SnapNrack going forward.”

The distributor opened a new 140,000-ft2 distribution center in Visalia, California, last year.
