CPUC Commissioner Baker Confirmed by State Senate

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is pleased to announce that the California State Senate today confirmed the appointment of Matthew Baker as Commissioner by a vote of 36-0.

Commissioner Baker was reappointed to the CPUC on Dec. 3, 2024, by Governor Gavin Newsom after first being appointed on Feb. 16, 2024.

“I am grateful to the Senate for confirming my appointment,” said Commissioner Baker. “I look forward to continuing to collaborate with the dedicated CPUC team and my fellow Commissioners to ensure that all Californians have access to safe, reliable, and affordable utility services.”

Commissioner Baker served as the Director of the Public Advocates Office prior to his appointment as Commissioner. His extensive background also includes serving as the Deputy Secretary for Energy at the California Natural Resources Agency from 2020 to 2022, where he played a key role in advancing the state’s clean energy progress.

Commissioners are appointed to the CPUC for six-year terms and require Senate confirmation within one year of taking the oath of office.
