New 23-kW solar project will help power Indiana youth services nonprofit

Five Star Life, a nonprofit serving underserved youth through its leadership programming, has announced the installation of its 23-kW solar array at its Summit Facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for December 11.

The new solar array brings renewable energy to the 350-acre innovative learning campus, enabling FSL to expand its programming year-round.

“We want to share with our students the need for solar, its impact on the environment and potential careers in the solar industry,” FSL executive director Aubrey Danielson said. “Thanks to Everybody Solar, savings from this array allow us to expand programming to add new Summit experiences and serve more kids.”

Five Star Life seeks to positively change the face of culture and outcomes for youth through its blend of character, leadership and mindset curriculum and programming. The nonprofit hosts experiential learning opportunities at Summit, a 350-acre innovative learning campus in Union. At Summit, students integrate soft skills with a variety of specific hard skills, such as equine, archery, nature education, blacksmithing and art.

“We are thrilled that our Solar Moonshot Program was able to help make Five Star Life’s solar journey possible,” said Tara Hammond, founder and executive director of Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation, manager of the Solar Moonshot Program. “Not only will Five Star Life’s solar project reduce monthly utility bill costs that are reinvested into its mission, but it will also lessen climate injustices, provide the community with clean energy education and support local green jobs.”

Donors for the solar array include individual donors and Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation – Solar Moonshot Program, Business Performance Improvement and Engie.
