Harmony Energy gains lease for 100MW Creyke Beck energy storage project

Battery energy storage developer Harmony Energy has secured a lease for its Creyke Beck project.

The company has planning consent from East Riding of Yorkshire Council for a total of 100MW of battery storage. When completed, the site is expect to have a capacity of up to 200MWh.

Harmony Energy has gained the 40 year lease from Keyland Developments, the property trading arm of Kelda Group and sister company to Yorkshire Water.

“We’re very pleased to get this deal across the line; the energy sector represents an exciting new business area for us to explore and we look forward to sourcing further opportunities from within Kelda Group’s extensive landholding,” said Peter Garrett, managing director, Keyland Developments.

Harmony Energy initially gained planning permission for a 49.5MW development at Creyke Beck in Cottingham, close to Hull, in November 2019.

The company has a growing pipeline of battery energy storage projects in the UK, announcing a joint venture with global clean energy group TagEnergy for two grid-scale battery energy storage projects in England and Scotland with a total capacity of 100MWh in November 2021.

In 2020, it signed a deal with Fotowatio Renewable Ventures to build a 99MW / 198MWh project in southern England. 

Harmony Energy secured £186.5 million through IPO in 2021 as well, to acquire a seed portfolio consisting of a collection of five energy storage assets that together total 213.5MW/427MWh and which are set to use Tesla’s battery storage technology.
